Milos

'Get away from it all' is an expression often used but never more appropriate. The photographer was busy in the house, and we were sitting outside on the terrace chatting to the owner and taking in the spectacular scenery below. We must have been talking for an hour or so when it dawned on us that the only sound we had heard was us, otherwise there was complete silence. Suddenly though, jingling of bells were heard coming up from the valley and the owner promptly informed us that it was a goat heard and you should expect to hear it a couple of times a day. What bliss, what paradise, what a splendid location.

The old windmill was in ruins so the owner decided to re-create it by following the original plans and drawings. Identical stone work and seasoned old wood for beams has been used not to mention the windows and shutters that have been located where they were previously. In contrast to the traditional exterior, the inside of the windmill has been cleverly converted to provide a stylish and comfortable interior. Furnishings have been hand crafted to fit in the circular interior as have the kitchen units and even the small bathroom has been cleverly built into a curved space. Light interiors and pastel colour fabrics for cushions and covers add to the appeal of this unique property.

Milos stands in the centre of a walled in garden, mostly covered in grass except for the extensive terraces around the good size pool and in keeping with the round building, the pool has also been constructed to follow the contour of the property. Vineyards cover some of the land immediately around the periphery and in almost every direction the views can only be described as spectacular looking over lush green valleys, rolling hills and in the distance, the main town of Lefkas. The property is located on the edges of the sleepy village of Kavalos and a five minute walk will bring you to its centre, a kafenion providing the social activity in the village and where an ouzo will set you back at least 50 cents. The next main village of Lazarata is two kilometres further away and here there are a couple of excellent tavernas and also a minimarket. The town of Lefkas, and the coastal areas to the east and west are all virtually equidistant and a twenty minute drive away. Entrance from the front terrace into an open plan circular sitting /dining room with a fully fitted kitchen and along one side a bathroom with shower. Stairs to a spacious double bedroom at first floor level.
