Assos is a picturesque small fishing village overlooked by the ruins of a Venetian fortress dating from 1595. The fortress commands breathtaking views of the western coast of Kefalonia and down as far as Myrtos beach. It is an ideal spot for birdwatchers and magnificent sunsets can also be viewed from this point. The village of around a hundred inhabitants contains some fine examples of Venetian architecture commonly found on Kefalonia before the devastation of the 1953 earthquake. The area around the horseshoe harbour with its pebble beach also serves as the main village square and is officially known as Paris Square. Poplar and plane trees provide wonderful shade and at springtime there are dazzling displays of tropical flowers around the little fishing port. Situated in the village and around the harbour are four tavernas, a bar, and a mini-market. Please note, there is not an ATM or money changing facilitiy in Assos, the nearest resort being Fiskardo, there is also an ATM at Kefalonia airport.

Sofia is a traditional cottage, chosen for its spectacular location. As with our other property Apollonia, you come out of your front door, cross the verandah and the narrow path along the sea wall, and step into the water. This cottage-type traditional property is simple but comfortable, and its main feature is the spacious front covered verandah which you will use for most dining. However, there is also an internal dining room as you enter the property from the front, and in one corner of this room, there is a small kitchenette.

The two bedrooms, one twin and one double, and also the bathroom with shower, lead off this room. Because you are on the edge of the sea, there is a constant cool breeze but for extra comfort pedestal fans are provided in both the bedrooms. The owners run the only gift shop in the village which is located behind the property. It is no distance really to any taverna or the minimarket as they are all located close to the beach. A sought after property in a prime beach side location.

Please note that the space between the cottage verandah and the beach wall is not private to the cottage and visitors have a right to pass by.
